Our Community
In
Camilla, Georgia, you'll not only find a lifestyle of comfort and
convenience, but a community rich in beauty and history. We pride
ourselves on being the home place of southern hospitality with a
special blend of modern progress and economic development.
Mitchell
County is named for General Henry Mitchell of Hancock County. General
Mitchell was a great leader in the movement for independence during
the Revolutionary War. Camilla serves as the county seat of Mitchell
County and was named for General Mitchell's nineteen-year-old granddaughter.
Located
on Georgia State Highway 19, Camilla is convenient to Northern Florida,
Southern Alabama and Interstate 75. We are also the center of one
of the most efficient, irrigated agricultural production systems
in the world. Crops such as peanuts, pecans, and cotton are grown
in the fertile fields surrounding Camilla. Most of these crops are
also processed here, giving employment to residents and profit to
area businesses.
In
Downtown Camilla, you can browse in our quaint shops or spend your
day at some of the most beautiful quail hunting plantations in the
South. Our City is also known for its special events, such as the
May Gnat Days Festival and the June Lite Pro Invitational Tennis
Tournament. We invite you to visit our beautiful City and see what
we have to offer!
We are very proud of our community and think you'll find everything
you need right here in Camilla. Whether its location, a sense of
community, or just a laid-back lifestyle you're looking for, stop
