And The Award Goes To…

Former Councilman, Bryant Campbell, was awarded Citizen of the Year for 2021 this past Tuesday night at the Camilla Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet.

Mr. Campbell has been dedicated to Camilla for most of his adult life. His father, the late Lewis Campbell, also known as Mayor Lewis Campbell many years ago, taught him at an early age the importance of helping others and giving back to your community. Mr. Campbell or as I know him Mr. Bryant was born and raised in Camilla. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he returned home to run the family farm while raising his three children with his wife, Lynn Campbell.

Somehow between farming and raising children, Mr. Bryant was able to find time to give back to the community he loved just like his father taught him. Mr. Bryant served on numerous boards including the Camilla Chamber, Cattleman Association, Westwood Schools, the Mitchell County Development Authority, Tax Equalization, and the Pinecliff Gin.

He was a member of the Camilla Rotary Club for almost 50 years while holding many leadership roles for the club. Mr. Bryant is also an active and faithful member of the Camilla United Methodist Church where he volunteered to serve on the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board.

Last but not least, Mr. Bryant proudly served his city as a City Councilman for 20 years. Mr. Bryant’s business like mind and servant’s heart made him a tremendous asset to the city. While in office the citizens witnessed many accomplishments and improvements to Camilla.

He played a pivotal role in growing the city’s infrastructure, operated with a balanced budget, completed hundreds of training hours, promoted city beautification, and always kept the city’s best interest as his main goal.

His character and leadership should serve as an example to others that follow. Thank you Mr. Bryant for your devotion and love to this city that I too proudly call home.
