Welcome to the City of Camilla Police Department webpage. The department employs 20 officers certified by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council and required to complete a minimum 20 hours of training annually to maintain their certifications and powers of arrest. Under the leadership of Police Chief Hendricks, the department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provides emergency and non-emergency service to more than 5,600 city residents and an estimated 4,000 visitors every day. 

The commitment to providing professional law enforcement and public safety services to all citizens and visitors to Camilla is reinforced by the department’s mission statement: The City of Camilla Police Department’s mission is to maintain social order within the prescribed ethical and constitutional limits while providing professional law enforcement services to the citizens we serve. Departmental personnel are devoted to enforcing the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons.

As part of our public outreach to ensure a safe community, we depend on the supportive input received from the citizens we serve. We encourage the cooperation of all citizens to help us reduce crime and crime-related activity throughout our community, neighborhoods, and business districts so our citizens and visitors are safe and secure as they live, work, and visit in Camilla. police car camillaCitizens interested in a tour of duty or a career in law enforcement are encouraged to participate in the Ride-Along Program and personally experience the challenges, risks, and rewards of a police officer’s role in the community. The program is designed to encourage community involvement, open up lines of communication between citizens and the police officers who serve our community, and provide participants the opportunity to observe police officers performing a variety of tasks during the course of a patrol shift. Under the direction of Police Chief Johnny Hendricks all officers have completed the 21st Century Policing Training Program. The community at-large was provided an opportunity to attend a presentation for 21st Century Policing and received an overview of community engagements, partnerships, and problem solving techniques to enhance police and community relations.
